Map Editor
An intuitive interface to define AMR layouts, constraints, and interactions
The Map Editor is HELKO’s software module designed for the dynamic definition of maps and navigation routes for the AMR fleet.
Through a simple yet powerful graphical interface, it enables mapping of complex environments, setting sensitive zones, defining interaction points between AMRs and machinery or operators, and adjusting movement constraints within the facility.
Compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux PCs, the Map Editor integrates seamlessly with the ROS 2-based navigation system, updating the map in real time on every robot in the fleet.

Key features
Direct map editing
Design and modify layouts through an intuitive graphical interface, without the need for external software.
Custom functional areas
Define special zones such as loading/unloading areas, access points, restricted or shared zones, traffic lights, and obstacles.
Configurable interaction points
Set interaction points between AMRs and lines, machinery, doors, sensors, and operators.
Advanced navigation rules
Configure reserved zones, speed changes, preferred lanes, and one-way routes.
Multi-map and multi-floor support
Simultaneously manage different layouts across multiple levels.
Real-time synchronisation
Save changes and automatically update all AMRs in the fleet.
The strategic role of the Map Editor within the HELKO ecosystem
Thanks to its native integration with the NAVARCO Fleet Management System and the ROS 2-based navigation system, every map change automatically propagates across the entire fleet.
- Modify AMR behaviour by updating routes, priorities, and interaction rules.
- Influence mission planning logic, which recalculates available routes based on the new operational conditions.
- Coordinate environmental safety through precise definition of constraints, reserved areas, and critical zones.
Connecting layout, logic, and navigation
The Map Editor is not just a configuration tool: it is the central link between the physical layout, autonomous navigation, and intelligent mission management.
Designed for dynamic environments
Every edit results in an immediate fleet update, with zero downtime.
- Areas can be added or removed without any infrastructural changes.
- Perfect for testing alternative layouts in prototype or expansion environments.
- Enables partial updates without the need to recreate the entire map.
- Existing maps can be reused and adapted in just a few clicks.
The Map Editor is built for constantly evolving indoor environments, where routes change according to production needs.

Operational advantages
- No CAD software required: everything is managed from a single interface.
- Suitable even for non-technical operators, with minimal training.
- Fully integrated within the HELKO system and the NAVARCO fleet coordinator.
- Enables management of real layout constraints, such as restricted or shared areas, without costs related to physical modifications.
Every map change is versioned and traceable, ensuring control and safety even in environments compliant to internal standards or certifications.
Full software control, no functional limitations
Like every component of the HELKO AMR solution, the Map Editor is developed by our in-house software team, granting us full access to the source code.
- Every feature can be customised according to the client’s specific requirements.
- New rules, logics, or constraints reflecting real processes can be integrated.
- The editor is extendable to new types of environments or applications.
No static software — just a solid, flexible foundation ready to adapt to any real-world context.
